

Orland Park residents live amongst more than 15,000 acres of Cook County forest preserves that surround the community and nearly 150 miles of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and wintertime cross-country skiing. Nearby are the forest and wildlife preserves of DuPage and Will Counties.

Messenger Woods in Will County is located just west of Orland Park and contains 753 acres of natural woodlands along Spring Creek. Offering picnic pavilions, play fields, hiking and ski trails, and group camping.

Surrounding communities offer exciting insights into nature and are within easy reach for Orland Park residents. Lemont’s Camp Sagawau offers environmental education. The Center Children’s Farm in Palos Park gives youngsters a first-hand look at life on a farm with pony rides, a petting zoo, and nature trails.
Little Red Schoolhouse Nature Center in Willow Springs includes live native animal pens, a farm garden, prairie restoration areas, and Long John Slough. Lake Katherine Nature Preserve covers 91 acres at the northern edge of Palos Heights. It includes 3.5 miles of hiking trails, a 20-acre lake, and a manmade waterfall on Navajo Creek.
