Business & Industry

graphicOswego is a place where businesses can succeed. The Village of Oswego and other public agencies have taken several steps to make Oswego even more attractive as a location for commercial and industrial investment. A new Village Comprehensive Plan has been adopted. Sites have been created for retail centers and business parks through proactive annexations and boundary agreements with other municipalities. Water and sewer lines have been extended to serve new development. State routes have been widened to four lanes. A new Public Works facility has been built that will allow the Village to provide services for a growing community.

National retailers and restaurants, as well as local-based businesses have descended upon Oswego. There are several shopping centers with national tenants. Oswego Commons. which was the largest retail center built in the Chicagoland region in 2001, opened with anchors Target, The Home Depot and Dominick’s Finer Foods. The 68-acre center, which has 500,000 sq. ft. of retail space, also includes Chili’s, Cold Stone Creamery, Panera Bread, Portillo’s, OfficeMax, Party City and TJ Maxx. Townes Crossing is anchored by Jewel and the Kendall 10 Theatre. A 220,000 sq. ft. Meijer superstore will anchor Centennial Plaza, a new 57-acre shopping center. Oswego also has many neighborhood commercial centers, including Douglas Square, Mason Square, Oswego Plaza and Washington Square.

A unique opportunity for new business development is in downtown Oswego, which is home to historic buildings and homes, as well as shops and restaurants. The Village of Oswego recently launched a project to enhance and restore the historic downtown district. This project included significant infrastructure and streetscape improvements, such as the installation of brick pavers, sidewalks, landscaping, and decorative streetlight and benches. The final phase is the construction of Hudson Crossing Park, along the Fox River, and the Waubonsee Creek Promenade, which stretches from Main Street to the new park.

There are three business parks in Oswego. Kendall Point Business Center, which is located at Routes 34 and 30, is the largest industrial park in Kendall County. Stonehill Business Park, which is located on Plainfield Road has completed its second phase. Highland Business Center, located on Route 30, is home to Anfinsen Assembly’s 112,000 sq. ft. facility.

Sites for new tenants and commercial development projects are available along Oswego’s major business corridors: Route 34, Orchard Road and Route 30. There are also available sites for industrial and office tenants and business park development on Orchard Road and in our existing business centers. The Orchard Road corridor, which has more than 300 acres of land designated for business park development, includes a site for a Metra station and rail access on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe line.
