Pekin residents have access to some of the finest health care facilities in the nation. Pekin Hospital’s doors opened in 1918 and for more than eight decades it has offered the latest technology and a full range of comprehensive services. A modern, 192-bed facility located in the heart of the city, it has a staff of more than 90 doctors and specialists in many fields including cardiology, audiology, pediatrics, diagnostics, mental health, chemical dependency, cardiac rehabilitation and pulmonary rehabilitation.

Pekin Hospital’s maternity services include The Family Beginnings Center, which offers a choice of traditional delivery or a cozy, home-like birthing room. The hospital’s Freedom Care 55 program provides valuable health and wellness information to people 55 or older without charge.

A state-designated Level II Trauma Center, Pekin Hospital’s emergency service is open 24-hours a day. It is staffed by physicians and nurses specially trained in emergency medicine. A 24-hour poison control hotline is also available. Pekin Hospital instituted the State’s first hospital-based home health care program in 1960. Pekin Hospital has earned the highest accreditation from the Joint Commission of Healthcare Organizations. The hospital prides itself on being big enough to serve yet small enough to provide a personal touch.

There are three facilities in nearby Peoria that also offer excellent health care to Pekin residents: St. Francis Medical Center, with 583 beds; Methodist Medical Center, a 374-bed facility; and Proctor Hospital, with 289 beds. Dozens of physicians, surgeons, and dentists have offices in Pekin to serve and treat residents. The area has several high quality nursing homes offering short and long-term skilled nursing care.
