Spring Grove

graphicWelcome to Spring Grove!

Nestled within the beautiful surroundings of Northern Illinois and divided by the meandering Nippersink Creek is Spring Grove. Spring Grove is one of the fastest growing municipalities in McHenry County. The Village’s current population is 3,880. Spring Grove is an ambitious community with a clear vision of the future. Years of careful planning have rewarded the Village with an increase in both commercial and light industrial development. With this, increased residential developments have provided the Village with a high quality selection of housing. The hard working heritage of Spring Grove continues to be a benchmark for the enhanced development throughout the community.

Spring Grove was primarily established as an agricultural community. In fact, the first silo constructed in North America was built in the 1800’s on a small farm located in Spring Grove. A memorial marker stands today at Lyle Thomas Park to pay tribute to this historical site.

Lyle Thomas Park is also home to one of four canoe launches/landings along the Nippersink Creek. The Nippersink Creek Canoe Trail is one of the most beautiful canoe trails in Northern Illinois. The creek meanders around cut banks and sandbars, beneath willows and through rolling farmlands.

Many of these activities can be found at local and surrounding parks such as Spring Grove Park, Horse Fair Park, the beautiful Chain O’ Lakes State Park, and Glacial Park. The Village of Spring Grove and Richmond have combined their efforts to form a year round recreation program filled with lots of activities for children of all ages.

Spring Grove is proud to be the home of the Annual Fourth of July Celebration and Illinois Storytelling Festival. The Annual Fourth of July Celebration kicks off at noon with a parade and ends with a fireworks display in the evening. The Illinois Storytelling Festival is held the last weekend in July at Spring Grove Park. People attend both events from surrounding communities and states.
