graphicWelcome to Richmond!

With its laid back charm, it’s hard to believe Richmond is only about an hour from Chicago, Rockford, and Milwaukee. Nestled at the Illinois-Wisconsin border, our historic downtown area is located three blocks south of Routes 12 and 173, and only 12 miles from Lake Geneva.graphic

In the late 1960’s and the 1970’s new entrepreneurs came to Richmond and began recycling the old buildings in the downtown area for new uses. Richmond was one of the first communities to do a revitalization program entirely with private funds. The downtown and surrounding area is filled today with independently-owned antique and unique specialty shops, a beautifully restored Victorian Bed and Breakfast, as well as many service businesses.

Strolling through our shops and neighborhoods is a delight. A walk over our wooden bridge provides a view down the Prairie Path Nature Trail, where you can walk, bike, ski, or horseback ride from the Illinois border through downtown Richmond to many other towns on this extensive trail. Add to this the beautifully restored Victorian homes surrounding our business district, and you have the final unique charm that completes the integrity of our past within today’s village.

Some of the activities offered in our area are golfing, horseback riding, snowmobiling, hunting, and special programs, all right here in Richmond. Seasonal attractions include Fridays’ Farmers Market and Cruisin’ Nights, Round-Up Days Festival (last weekend in August), our traditional Christmas of Yesteryear (Thanksgiving weekend), as well as other new events.graphic

In less than 15 minutes you can be at Glacial Park (2,700 acres) or the Chain O’ Lakes State Park (5,300 acres), bordered by three lakes formed around the Fox River. These parkland and conservation areas are great places to canoe, boat, bike, fish, hike, picnic, and camp.

Whether you need an afternoon escape, a romantic weekend, days of vacation fun, or want to open a new business, the Village of Richmond welcomes you again, and again, and again.
