Neighborhoods and Community

Elegant turn-of-the-century mansions overlook the Mississippi from atop soaring limestone bluffs. Cozy cottages line streets bordered by mature trees. Century-old homes in historic districts undergo rehabilitation and renovation by today’s generations to display their charm and grace as brightly as when they were new. Sunlit acres of new development sparkle with contemporary large and mid-size single-family homes. Handsome condominium and apartment complexes also are highlights of the area’s housing.

Such is the invitation to good living extended by the communities of the River Bend area. Comfortable homes are available to fit every budget and lifestyle.

In Alton, the fine old homes in the Christian Hills area, Upper Alton, and Middletown National Historic Districts are being renovated and restored by young executives. Fairmont and Christian Hills are atop bluffs that overlook the Mississippi. The City of Alton has taken a new focus in recent years on the development of housing in the older sections of the city. The Mexico Neighborhood has led the development with the construction of thirty single family homes that make up Hampton Place. The city has plans for other infill housing developments that along with the construction of new single family units also call for the rehabilitation of historic structures.

Normandy Place

On Godfrey’s south side, numerous subdivisions of single-family homes are being developed. These neighborhoods are peaceful and quiet, with most streets ending in cul de sacs. In this area, as well, are elegant condominium and townhouse complexes like Normandy Place and Lexington Estates. Large single-family homes are found in new subdivisions like Seasons, Eagle Ridge, Eagle Pointe, and Summerfield.

The recent opening of IL-255 has brought new residential growth and development to Bethalto, Wood River, Roxana and other area communities. Bethalto is experiencing the area’s fastest residential growth in new subdivisions like Whispering Oaks, Patriot’s Crossing, Sportsman’s Park, and Comfort Homes at Innsbrook with more than 700 new homes platted. In Wood River, there are several housing developments or expansions underway such as Kendall Hill Estates.

Grafton Hills

New subdivisions of superb single-family homes are being built on the high bluffs on Grafton’s east side. Grafton Hills stands on 235 acres of prairie land atop the bluffs. West Ridge at the Palisades is a planned residential/resort community featuring large wooded lots and Mississippi overlooks. Three new condominium complexes that offer spectacular views are underway.

The River Bend area’s retirees are not forgotten. Fox Grove Retirement Community is located in Wood River, and Godfrey is the site of the large United Methodist Village and the new Fountains residence.

The variety of homes available in the River Bend ranges from older homes on beautiful, tree-lined streets to brand new homes in all price ranges in various subdivisions across the entire region.

A full range of housing opportunities has something for every taste and price range.
