Rockton Recreation

The Performing Arts Center (PAC) became a reality for Rockton thanks to the efforts of Hononegah Community High School, Hononegah Performing Arts Council and area communities. The PAC features concerts by many talented musicial groups, including the Chicago Jazz Ensemble and the Rockford Symphony Orchestra. Residents also enjoy dance performances and plays presented by the high school drama club and visiting tour groups.

Rockton has three golf courses in the community—Macktown, Red Barn and Barwood. There are several other golf courses just minutes away, including the Ledges Golf Course in Roscoe; Atwood Homestead in Rockford; Sugar River Greens in Shirland and Swan Hills in Belvidere.

Rockton’s public boat ramps provide river access to residents and visitors who enjoy boating and water recreation, such as canoeing and fishing on the Rock, Pecatonica and Sugar Rivers (all abundant with fish). Another water attraction is the Walt Williamson Swimming Pool located in Village Green Park.

Hononegah Forest Preserve, Macktown Forest Preserve, Village Green Park, Sugar River Forest Preserve and the 700 acres Nygren Wetlands are located within minutes of downtown. These Rockton parks offer swimming, athletic fields equipped playgrounds, picnic areas and more! Settlers Park features a boat dock, walking path, baseball diamond, ice skating rink and gazebo. Residents young and old participate in sports programs such as tee-ball, baseball, soccer, basketball and swimming. Younger residents take advantage of summer activities at “The Hut,” sponsored by the Village of Rockton.

In addition to its many water and park attractions, Rockton has a newly constructed 18-Hole Disc Golf Course and an extensive bike path that welcomes walkers, joggers and bikers. The bike path networks Rockton with neighboring Roscoe and beyond! The Rockton Athletic Fields are scheduled for development and will be home to Rockton’s sports organizations. The athletic fields will feature six baseball diamonds, six soccer fields, a football field, a concession area, a playground and a two-mile walking path.

William’s Tree Farm and Blackhawk Tree Farm are located just five miles west of Rockton. Visitors from across the state-line travel to the Rockton area to find fresh cut Christmas trees and spend the day enjoying the many family activities at both locations.

Blackhawk Farms Raceway is just minutes away! Devoted to road racing, the seven-turn, two-mile asphalt course challenges both amateur and professional drivers. In addition, Blackhawk Farms Raceway presents motorcycle racing events that feature many of the most prominent riders in the country. It is also one of the most popular open tracks for karting in the Midwest.

Campers can stake their claims at two county forest preserves. Both Hononegah Forest Preserve (62 campsites) and Sugar River Forest Preserve (100 campsites) have full amenities.
