Senior Living

seniors

The Village of Romeoville places a high value on recreation and leisure activities, and the municipal parks and Recreation Department offers an exhaustive catalog of programs, events, facilities and clubs to ensure that life is never dull.

The village is especially committed to providing the best possible services for its senior population, organizing activities, transportation and other helpful services. A popular group, The Golden Age Club, or “The Golden Agers” as they playfully call themselves, is a community group that is open to anyone at least 50 years young, and meets every Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Recreation Department at 900 W. Romeo Rd. for leisure and recreation.

A liaison between the Golden Agers and the village coordinates the needs of the senior population with the village’s resources, organizing recreation, health and safety services and many other welcomed programs. At the heart, it’s a forum where older

community members can get together to enjoy good conversation, games, crafts and informative programs.

The Golden Age Club currently has around 135 members. A typical meeting begins with members voicing their concerns or recommendations to its liaison who reports their observations directly to the village.

Members spend the remaining time chatting, playing games, reminiscing, and occasionally welcoming guest speakers from the community who give informative seminars of safety and available services. The evening culminates with the most popular activity—bingo.

In addition to the village’s on-site recreation facilities, the Golden Agers often have the opportunity to attend daytrips and excursions. The many activities offered by the Recreation Department give seniors a chance to be active, while not having to worry about transportation and other arrangements.

Among the most popular outings the Golden Agers enjoy is the Let’s Do Lunch/Diners Club, which allows members to visit different area restaurants with transportation; a Chicago Premium Outlet Mall trip; Joliet Empress Casino trip; and frequent excursions to the movies. Other activities include a Bowling Olympics, annual Senior Bunco, ice skating, open gym and the Illinois Senior Olympics.

The village also extends a number of helpful services concerned with the safety and well-being of its senior citizens. The Recreation Department offers a Rules of the Road driving refresher course for seniors, while the Police and Fire Departments give frequent informative lectures, as well as special programs with safety in mind.

The Village of Romeoville is well-tuned to the needs of its senior population, and gives every opportunity to be entertained and active. As their name attests, the Golden Agers truly are in the primes of their lives, and can be certain to experience no loss of fun in these, their twilight years.
