The village is served by the Shorewood Police Department, staffed with well-trained, community-oriented officers. Community policing has become an integral part of the department’s philosophy and has prompted numerous programs:
Neighborhood Watch Program
Citizen’s Police Academy
Bicycle Patrol Unit (conducts bicycle safety seminars)
COPS (Community Organization for the Police of Shorewood)
The department is also praised for instituting the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program at the local grade schools.
The Troy Fire Protection District provides both fire and paramedic service for Shorewood and the surrounding area. Highly regarded for response time and advanced training, the fire department remains one of the strongest unified groups within Shorewood. Fire safety training for the community is also a priority for the department via in-school programs and the department's "smoke house."
