The Village of Skokie has many different dining options to choose from. Fans of fresh fish and seafood are looking in the right place if they set out to have a nice meal in the village, as there are plenty of top-notch spots around. Here are just a few of the best:
Bonefish Grill
9310 Skokie Boulevard, 847-674-4634
Bonefish Grill is a great place to go for a wide selection of fresh fish. “We get our fish six days a week from around the world,” says Managing Partner Steve Padgett.
Customers create their own entrées here, ordering fish and one of four special sauces that will then be prepared on an oak grill. Selections range from Atlantic salmon to Ahi Tuna, and the restaurant also serves a selection of pasta, chicken and steak dishes. The “Signature Sauces” include warm mango salsa, lemon butter, chimichurri sauce and a Pan-Asian sauce. In addition, there are 22 specialty sauces that make appearances from time to time—check with a server for availability.
Bonefish Grill offers diners a polished, casual atmosphere, knowledgeable staff and reasonable prices. Meals typically range from $13 to $15, and include one side item and a seasonal garnish. Servers are well-versed in fish/wine pairings and can make suggestions for those who are not sure of what would best accompany their dishes. All desserts are made in-house.
Shallots Bistro
4741 Main Street, 847-677-3463

Shallots Bistro is a lovely restaurant in the area that offers a vast array of delicious French-American bistro-style dishes. The menu rotates, but waiter Harvey Gladman says that the typical selection includes lamb shank, duck and chicken, as well as vegetable dishes. Although not known exclusively for their fish, during the summer the restaurant serves quite a bit of it in addition to other menu items. “The selection changes almost daily and we have things such as tilapia and Dover sole,” he says, adding, “We also rotate our desserts, serving everything from baked Alaska to fresh fruit plates.”
Those who enjoy outdoor dining will appreciate the patio area at the restaurant, but the interior is just as lovely. The wine list at the bistro is extensive, featuring choices from Argentina, France and Spain, among others, and there is a full bar, as well. Beers from all over the world are served here, as well as martinis and other specialty drinks.
Shallots Bistro offers upscale dining at a reasonable price. Entrée sandwiches average around $10, while fish and meat dishes range in the mid-$20s.
McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurants
4999 Old Orchard Shopping Center 847-763-9811
Another restaurant known for its delectable fish selection is McCormick & Schmick’s. On the menu, one can find more than 30 varieties of fresh seafood each day, and the selection changes constantly based on what is in season. Catfish, swordfish and monkfish are just a few examples of the many different types of fish that may be on the “fresh list,” and the menu is printed daily.
McCormick & Schmick’s offers pasta, steak, poultry and shellfish on the menu, as well as hand-mixed drinks made with fresh-squeezed juices from the bar. Bourbons, whiskeys and wines are also available, in addition to a wide variety of mixed drinks. Warm mahogany wood, stained glass and an oak bar give the restaurant a comfortable feel and the dining room seats about 300 people. The average dinner price is between $14 and $25.
These three dining options all offer an appetizing array of fresh fish selections and other entrée options for those looking to enjoy an evening out on the town with all the trimmings.
