contentsSkokie IL Chamberads

Welcome

On behalf of the Skokie Chamber of Commerce, its member businesses and our Board of Directors, I am very pleased to introduce the 2009 Skokie Lifestyle Magazine™. There is a lot to showcase and be proud of in our community. The Village of Skokie is strong and vibrant, undergoing a renaissance unique to established communities in the Chicagoland area. We owe this growth and economic resurgence to many factors, including the stability of the business community and the vision of our village management and elected officials.

If you drive up and down our streets, they are well-maintained centers of activity. Our school districts are diverse centers of academic excellence. We have an award-winning library system, police department and fire department. The Skokie Park District totals 49 public facilities, which encompass more than 250 acres of parkland, miles of bicycle paths and dozens of other special amenities that make the district a gem in the community.

The Village of Skokie is home to not one, but three, colleges and universities: Oakton Community College, National-Louis University and Everest College.

No other community on the North Shore has as robust a cultural, arts and entertainment presence. The Village of Skokie is home to the North Shore Center for Performing Arts, Centre East, Northlight Theatre, Skokie Music Theatre, Skokie Valley Orchestra, Ars Viva Symphony Orchestra and Northshore Sculpture Park. Skokie is truly a great place to live, raise a family and operate a business.

Businesses in Skokie play a vital role in the economic health of our community. The Village of Skokie has a solid industrial, manufacturing and technology presence, along with a retail mix that draws people into the community from throughout the metropolitan area. This strong business presence contributes to the tax base of the village, keeping residential taxes low for our 66,000 residents.

The Skokie Chamber of Commerce has been an active advocate for businesses on the North Shore for more than 83 years. The Skokie Chamber serves its member businesses by offering connections to resources that foster growth, stability and success. We achieve these goals through providing benefits and programs to member businesses, including:

• Monthly networking events

• Industry-specific networking groups, such as Sales Vantage Referral and LeTip International Old Orchard Chapter

• Specialized networking venues including Women in Business, Young Professionals’ Network- 40 Below!, the Skokie Chamber Breakfast Club, the Manufacturers’ Roundtable and the Small Office/Home Office Network

• Educational seminars that provide valuable information to businesses on local and regional levels

• Participation in multi-community industry forums and trade shows

• Participation and production of community festivals, such as the Festival of Cultures, Taste of Skokie Valley, North Shore Festival of Art and Backlot Bash

• Informational and marketing opportunities such as the Skokie Lifestyle Magazine™, the Skokie Community Guide, The Chamber Connection and the community street map
