Arts and Entertainment

Opportunities for enjoyment and enrichment are available through a multitude of entertainment venues, cultural programs and fine arts performances and exhibits. The Peaslee House, centrally situated in South Elgin, offers patrons a chance to learn about the local community and its influences. The cobblestone home was built in 1836, and is in excellent condition. Visitors are encouraged to tour this pre-war structure and take in South Elgin’s rich history.

Many other places providing education, history, and fun are to be found in the area as well. The Fox River Trolley Museum operates a number of antique trolleys that once connected the nearby towns of Carpentersville, Elgin, Aurora and Yorkville. An authentic trolley car from 1908 takes riders on a three-mile trip along the bank of the Fox River.

Cantigny Park, Discovery Center Museum, Donley’s Wild West Town, DuPage Children’s Museum and the Illinois Railway Museum are all conveniently nearby and are sure to appeal to a variety of interests and ages. Additionally, children and adults alike can easily spend a hands-on day with the animals at Randall Oaks Park & Barnyard Zoo, and Cosley Zoo.

Elgin Symphony Orchestra

Area centers of culture abound. Elgin Community Theatre presents live local theater throughout the year and the Elgin Symphony Orchestra holds over 50 concerts yearly at various venues in the northwest suburbs. The Dellora A. Norris Cultural Arts Center in St. Charles maintains an art gallery and a 1,000-seat performing arts theater.
