Many civic clubs and organizations exist within South Elgin. Residents of the area are generous and caring, creating strong bonds within the community and providing help to those in need.

In August of 2003, the South Elgin Parks and Recreation FUNdation, a 501(c)3 organization, was established in order to enhance the overall standard of living for current and future residents of South Elgin through the “development, implementation and funding of recreation, education and conservation programs, services and facilities.” The FUNdation champions such programs as the Harvest Hustle 7K Run and two-mile walk, the Tuna Kuhuna free fishing derby, the Footprints in Time Children’s Plaza and Pioneer Park, plus youth basketball programs and additional activities and events offered through the South Elgin Parks and Recreation Department.

The South Elgin Jaycees are one such group. Devoted to families and children, the organization sponsors such events and activities as the annual Easter Egg Hunt, a haunted house, Christmas caroling and more. Monthly fundraisers are held, and the Jaycees run Camp New Hope for mentally and physically challenged children.

The South Elgin Lions Club helps the village as well as supporting the worldwide Lions Club effort to fight blindness. The Lions Club holds weekly Bingo games in which charitable funds are raised and food is collected for food pantries. Additionally, the club collects used eyeglasses and hearing aids to be refurbished and fitted to those in need.

South Elgin VFW Post 2327

The South Elgin VFW Post 2327 and Ladies’ Auxiliary participates in numerous community service programs and endeavors. Their mission is “honoring the dead by helping the living.” The group holds a Memorial Day ceremony, supports the national VFW’s work in collecting phone cards for active soldiers, and assists the community and beyond in innumerable ways.

South Elgin’s history is chronicled by the South Elgin Heritage Commission. Sponsoring historical exhibits, books and more, this all-volunteer group works together to organize, maintain and preserve the history of South Elgin and Kane County.

Additional organizations and clubs in the area include Easter Seals, the Greater Elgin Area YMCA, Senior Services Associates, Inc., Three Fires Council Boy Scouts of America, the United Way of Elgin and Girl Scouts Sybaquay Council.
