The Board of Trustees is committed to working with the community to face the many challenges at the forefront of South Elgin’s future — and to face those challenges with the utmost standards of professionalism and ethics. Working in tandem with the Village’s professional staff, the Village Board is committed to the following initiatives:
• Promote a high quality of life for all residents and maintain a prosperous financial base from which to operate effectively.
• Preserve South Elgin’s unique heritage and conserve its distinct natural and historical character.
• Ensure balanced residential and non-residential growth.
• Enact effective legislation for the effective management of the Village operations.
• Provide opportunities for residents and members of the business community to present ideas and opinions.
• Make available professional services and responsible information to the public.
I encourage residents to become informed and active citizens. Board meetings are held on the first and third Monday of every month at 8:00 p.m. at Village Hall. I encourage you to communicate with your elected officials from time-to-time. If you prefer a setting less formal than the public meeting environment, share a cup of coffee with me at the “Coffee with the Mayor” forum where I am joined by the Village Administrator for an informal dialog with residents. “Coffee with the Mayor” forums are held quarterly at the Village Hall Conference Room and are held from 7:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m.
Citizen involvement is a vital part of the Village’s success story. Advisory commissions, consisting of residents and individuals with strong ties to the community serve on the Board of Fire & Police Commissioners, Special Events Committee, Intergovernmental Affairs Committee, Planning and Zoning Commission and Recreation Board. I encourage you to contact Village Hall for information about volunteering to serve on a Village committee.
Additional information concerning services and programs available to South Elgin residents may be found on the Village’s website at www.southelgin.com or by contacting Village Hall directly at 847-742-5780. The Village Board and staff are at your service with any assistance you may require.
Sincerely,
James W. Hansen, II
