Streeterville is generally known as the area between the Chicago River, Oak Street Beach, Lake Michigan and Chicago’s Magnificent Mile.
The boundaries of the neighborhood encompass a beautiful stretch of Lake Shore Drive, the famous John Hancock Center, Navy Pier, and the historic Old Chicago Water Tower, one of the few buildings that survived the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.
The closest “L” stops to Streeterville are Chicago and Grand on the Red Line. A host of Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) buses run routes in Streeterville. Buses 29, 56, 65 and 66 serve the south side of the neighborhood, while buses 145, 146, 147 and 151 serve the north end.
The entire community is accessible to bus route number 157, which runs throughout Streeterville. The route also links the area to the Northwestern station, as well as Chicago’s Union Station, both providing rail service for commuters. Metra commuter rail lines serve as a major source of transportation between downtown Chicago and several suburbs, while the Amtrak rail service provides travel to a number of stations throughout the country.
Drivers can take Lake Shore Drive and get off at either Grand Avenue (southbound) or the Navy Pier exit (northbound). From the Kennedy Expressway (I-90/94), use the Ohio Street exit and head east to Streeterville. Parking can be found most readily on the southern end of the neighborhood.
Streeterville is within 30 miles of three airports, each offering a host of flights to almost anywhere around the world: Chicago’s Midway Airport and O’Hare International Airport, as well as Indiana’s Gary Chicago International Airport.
