Taylorville has several preschools located close to the business district. The Taylorville Community Unit School District #3 comprises eight centers, including six elementary schools (K-5), one junior high (6-8) , and one senior high school (9-12). St. Mary’s Parochial School and Vision Way Christian School are private elementary Christian grade schools.

Lincoln Land Community College offers a variety of academic and technical classes during the day and evening. Customized training can be arranged either at the college or on the job site. Several public and private universities are close including the University of Illinois, Illinois State University, Eastern Illinois University, SIU School of Medicine, Bradley University and Millikin University.
