The arts and cultural community of Tinley Park continues to expand, providing plenty of opportunities for fun, enrichment and self-expression.
Vogt Visual Arts Center
The Tinley Park - Park District organized the award-winning Vogt Visual Arts Center in 1996. The facility itself is among Tinley Park’s most distinguished landmarks. The elegant 19th-century structure was once the home of Henry Vogt, Tinley Park’s first mayor. Since its establishment, the building has undergone restoration and now serves as the area’s hub for artistic and cultural endeavors. A number of engaging art classes are available for children and adults of all skill levels. Watercolor, stained glass, photography, cartooning and oil painting are among the various options found at VVAC. Additionally, the facility houses a gallery of local and well-known artists, and presents a new exhibition featuring the work of local artists each month. The VVAC also hosts free jazz concerts, an art show and sale, and other special events throughout the year. The Vogt Visual Arts Center is located at 17420 S. 67th Ct. in Tinley Park. PUBLIC ART: Benches on the Avenue
Instituted in 2004, Benches on the Avenue is a wonderful downtown public art project sponsored by the Tinley Park MainStreet Commission. The program was created as a way to promote local resident and tourist interest in our Downtown, as well as to promote an appreciation of the arts. In 2009, 19 functional benches adorn the streets of Downtown Tinley Park, featuring the theme “Classic TV.” Bench themes change annually, with previous years displaying themes such as “Hurray for Hollywood,” “Favorite Children’s Storybooks,” “Travel” and “Toyland.”
