he first Tinley Park Public Library (TPPL) facility was dedicated in July 1956, with a brand-new site dedicated in October 2004. The modern two-story library stretches over 58,700 square feet of educational, recreational and research materials and spaces. In total, the library has a collection of 162,551 books, 7,206 videos/DVDs, 9,519 audio materials, 43 databases, 391 print subscriptions, and 76,394 children’s items. Additionally, as part of the Suburban Library System, patrons have access to materials from more than 85 other libraries.
Adding to the list of resources discovered at the TPPL is a host of outstanding programs for youth, teens and adults. Book discussions, storytimes, computer courses, arts and crafts classes, family movie nights, reading clubs, and activities for seniors are among the many events happening on a regular basis at the library. Youth also have access to the Café Ole coffeehouse and the Loft program room.
The TPPL provides excellent outreach services for those unable to visit the facility. The library has instituted the Bookmobile, a mobile branch that makes stops at 45 neighborhood parks and intersections throughout Tinley Park and Orland Hills Monday-Thursday. The Bookmobile also makes a stop at the 80th Avenue Metra Station each Friday morning and offers homebound service for the elderly or physically challenged.
The TPPL is located at 7851 Timber Dr. For more information, call 708-532-0160 or visit www.tplibrary.org.
