Arts & Entertainment
Residents of the Village work hard every day at being successful in their jobs, maintaining their homes, and raising their families, but they also love to have fun and express themselves. There is no better place to find cultural events and happenings than in and around Tinley Park.
In addition to the many famous musicians brought to Tinley Park by the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre, there is a plethora of local talent ready to delight the senses. For classical fare, the Southwest Symphony Orchestra, South Suburban Opera and the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra each call the Southland home.
They are close to Tinley Park and perform throughout the year. The Tinley Park Arts Alive! program features a concert band, a jazz band, a flute quartet, a brass group and a community chorale, all comprised strictly of volunteers. Arts Alive! also runs a Writer’s Group and a Poet’s Circle for those looking to flex their writing muscles.
One of the Village’s most distinctive facilities is the Vogt Visual Arts Center, an elegant structure that was once home to the community’s first mayor, Henry Vogt. The 19th-century structure was lovingly restored and is now a gathering place for art and cultural activities. It offers more than 40 art classes, exhibitions, an art gallery and a gift shop.
Tinley Park’s arts program is recognized throughout the region. The Village, Chamber of Commerce and Oak Park Avenue Mainstreet Association sponsor over 20 exciting events and festivals downtown. A summer concert series is held on Saturday evenings, and the Autumn Fine Arts Festival is held in September. A Parade of Lights illuminates the streets in December, and the Weihnachtsmarkt, a holiday market, attracts shoppers and entertains visitors for a full weekend. In March, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade paints the town green, and a Farmer’s Market is the place to find fresh produce, homemade foods and crafts all through the summer.
While there are enough local and regional attractions to entertain for a lifetime, Tinley Park residents work hard to enjoy the talents and fellowship of the community as well.
