Recreation
Tinley Park teems with activities. However you like to spend your leisure time, chances are that Tinley Park’s award-winning park district will have a program or facility to meet any recreational need. Throughout the year, the Park District offers more than 400 programs, classes, special events and trips. It also has 39 parks featuring a wide range of facilities including tennis courts, baseball diamonds, picnic areas, football, soccer fields, playgrounds, and even miniature golf. For more vigorous activity, the park district also oversees the Tinley Park Fitness Center, complete with an indoor track, basketball, volleyball and racquetball courts, a lap pool and aerobics classes, a personal trainer and opportunities for kids' birthday parties.
The state-of-the-art Tony Bettenhausen Recreation Center at 171st St. and 80th Ave., encompasses 70,000 square feet that includes several basketball and volleyball courts, jogging and walking paths, rooms for arts and crafts and teen and senior activities, plus a preschool playground. It also is home to the Bettenhausen Auto Racing Museum, which provides information and exhibits memorabilia on auto racing. The museum pays tribute to the Bettenhausen family, long-time Tinley Park residents, well-known in the racing world.
The 60-acre Community Park is on the same site and has nearly any outdoor amenity residents could want: baseball diamonds, soccer fields, a walking/ bicycle path, lighted tennis courts, basketball and sand volleyball courts and a $4.4 million water park, complete with a zero depth pool and lazy river inner tube stream.
Golf enthusiasts can find challenging and entertaining courses and lush greens at any of the 20 golf courses in the immediate area. Among them are Tinley Park’s own Graystone Golf Links and Odyssey Country Club, as well as nationally recognized courses such as Cog Hill and Olympia Fields, where PGA tournaments are held every year.
For the young and the young at heart, Odyssey Fun World features miniature golf, an amusement park, batting cages, go-karts, videogames and dozens of other activities that are out-of-this-world fun. The Village also has two bowling centers that will be right up the alley of any bowler.
There is no excuse to be bored in Tinley Park. There is something to do at any time of the day, at every time of the year.
