Government
Responsive elected officials and a dedicated, professional Village staff take pride in delivering superior services to residents of Tinley Park. Through foresight and progressive thinking, Tinley Park officials have secured the comfort and well-being of its residents and posterity.
The Village operates under the council-manager form of government with a Mayor, Village Manager, Village Clerk and a six-member Board of Trustees. The board meets regularly to approve policies and procedures, relying on recommendations from staff and members of the village’s commissions. Commissions are comprised of knowledgeable community members who provide input on matters ranging from health and environment to long-range planning and economic development.
The Tinley Park Police Department employs 100 full and part-time officers who take a highly visible approach to policing and a proactive approach to deterring crime. The department operates the state’s largest Neighborhood Watch program and maintains enhanced 911 services for an added measure of safety and assistance. The department is accredited by the Commission on
Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), which requires agencies to comply with state- of-the art professional standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.
The Village is also proud of its paid on-call Fire Department that has 100 members fully trained in firefighting and emergency response.
