Worship

Before founding Zion Lutheran Church, the first church in Tinley Park, 19th-century settlers gathered in other people’s homes or trudged miles to a nearby community to worship and take comfort in each other’s company. That strong devotion to spiritual life continues to be visible today in this community where the number of faiths represented has increased greatly.

Tinley Park has 20 places of worship and is served by churches of major denominations including Roman and Byzantine Catholic, Lutheran, Baptist, Episcopal, Christian, Methodist, Adventist, Reformed Christian, Islam, Jehovah’s Witness, and Presbyterian. Churches provide a wide range of social services including counseling, food pantries, youth programs, Bible study and other services.

The Tinley Park Ministerial Association, an ecumenical organization comprised of the Village’s many religious leaders, spearheads community programs and sponsors events that bring people from the different faiths together. Two centuries from the founding of Zion Lutheran Church, the community still comes together to celebrate what they believe in.
