A Hub of Business & Industry

At the heart of the Southland, Tinley Park has all the assets needed to sustain a thriving economy: quality developments; easy access to transportation; a well-constructed and maintained infrastructure; skilled labor and, most importantly, leadership with vision. The Village’s economic development department is the first community in the state to earn the Excellence in Economic Development Award from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration.

Tinley Park’s location is one of its strongest assets. It is in close proximity to a half-dozen major interstates and highways, the city of Chicago, Midway International Airport and O’Hare International Airport. Over four million people reside in a 25-mile radius, and nine million people populate the metropolitan area.

Emphasis on creating a positive environment for business has drawn corporations to the village’s I-80 Corridor. It has the resources needed for companies to succeed, including reliable electric power, natural gas, Chicago water, fiber optic communications and bandwidth technologies. Tinley Park was recognized as a prime growth market for businesses in commercial, office, manufacturing and technology.

Over 2,000 businesses call the Tinley Park area home including:
Advocate Medical
AmfoTek
Atlas Products
Avantile
Chicago Tribune
Comcast Call Center
Goodheart-Willcox
Ingalls Health Care
Kraft
KVH Navigation Systems
Midwest Suburban Publishing
Panduit Corporation
Pronger Smith Medical Care
Schaaf Window
State Farm Regional Claims Center
UGN Automotive

The Village tools to attract and retain businesses include tax increment finance districts, industrial revenue bonds, real estate tax abatement, sales tax sharing, and façade and streetscape improvement programs. The Village also works closely with the State of Illinois to offer corporations the opportunity to take advantage of other economic development programs offered through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, Will County and Cook County. Businesses turn plans into profits in Tinley Park thanks to a great location and financial advantages.

A skilled labor force is preparing for the jobs of the future at higher educational institutions that have satellite campuses in the village or are in the nearby region. These include DeVry University, Governors State University, Lewis University, DePaul University, Roosevelt University, and Chicago State University, along with numerous community colleges that offer undergraduate courses and courses for students looking to improve their skills and get ahead in the workforce.

Small businesses will find Tinley Park to have plenty of ideal places to set up shop. Oak Park Avenue is recognized not only as a business district, but also as a community gathering spot. Boutiques, small businesses and restaurants occupy the historic structures and new developments. Tinley Park Place and other mixed use developments add to the excitement of downtown Tinley Park with an 11-screen movie theater, 200 condominiums, open green space and 70,000 additional square feet of commercial space.

A prime community for business is one that offers a support mechanism for its business owners. The Tinley Park Chamber of Commerce offers its members community-wide exposure, access to a supportive network of fellow business owners, business referrals and informative seminars that can help turn a good business into a great one.

The Chamber has worked for its mission of having “Vision to see, faith to believe, and courage to do.” The Village of Tinley Park has followed this mantra as well, by having the vision to recognize Tinley Park’s ideal location, the faith to believe that a suburb could achieve great things, and the courage to turn it into one of the most progressive, up and coming cities in the United States.
