Real estate agent Deanna Clark of Coldwell Banker Residential in Wheaton believes that the town is not only a great place to live but is also terrific if you are in her line of work, pointing out, “Wheaton has a good market because of the wide variety of homes and price ranges we have here.”

Clark notes that the homes range from older, colonial, farmhouse and Victorian-style houses to newer developments, such as condominiums and town homes. “There is a lot of activity on the south side of the city and on the north and northwest side as some of the unincorporated areas are seeing new growth,” says Clark. She also points out that development is occurring in the downtown area — particularly condominiums near the train, which she says, “is great for those commuting to the city.”

Wescott Crossing is a new housing development by Norwood Builders that is bordered by Wesley Avenue, Cross Street, Front Street, and Scott Avenue. When finished, it will consist of 187 units in three buildings, the first of which is Scott House. Fifteen different floor plans are available for this 48-unit property and they have a variety of the amenities that have come to define high-end living space.

“The standard appointments of Scott House include luxuries typically considered as extra-charge upgrades at most communities,” says Bruce Adreani, President of Norwood Builders. Some of these features include solid-surface or granite counters in the kitchen area, energy efficient in-floor heating, and stainless steel appliances. The Scott House units have one, two and three bedroom options, and each also has a private terrace, patio or balcony for residents to enjoy.

Focus Development is also offering a condominium development in the downtown Wheaton area. Courthouse Square is a 6.1-acre property, offering three new seven-story buildings, with several floor plans to choose from. In addition to individual unit features such as granite countertops in the kitchen, the facility offers a heated, outdoor swimming pool, fitness center and hospitality room for its residents. The development is also converting the interior of the 110 year-old courthouse building into larger, vintage-style condominiums.

Anna Semprevivo, Marketing and Communications Manager for the Wheaton Chamber of Commerce, is excited about all of the well-planned growth happening in the community. She says, “The housing area is booming with new condos and rental spaces for new and existing residents. This will increase the foot traffic for local businesses and helps drive the Wheaton economy.”

Airhart Construction has chosen Wheaton as the place to debut their new “Mackenzie Model Home,” which is located at 2004 N. Stoddard Avenue. This creative home style was created in response to the latest consumer trend of wanting a bit less space, but with more amenities and careful thought put into the design. Still quite ample, at 3,832 square feet, this model has an efficient, open floor plan with four bedrooms, three and a half baths and a walkout basement. Some details of the Mackenzie include ten-foot ceilings, built in cherry bookshelves and a see-through fireplace that enjoys a dual home in both the library and the great room.

Another area that has seen recent activity is the Legends of Wheaton community. Located on the north side of Butterfield Road, west of Naperville Road and east of Wiesbrook Road, it is adjacent to Arrowhead Golf Club and close to Herrick Lake Forest Preserve. This area has some lovely homes for those who prefer a larger living space.

Custom homes are available and Keim Corp. sees to it that even the standard features available are high-end. Here the smaller details such as custom built crown molding and recessed lighting combine with the overall attention to skilled craftsmanship to make the homes truly spectacular.

The city of Wheaton is seeing a great deal of new growth alongside its traditional, older housing. Whether it is a brand new condominium development downtown, a custom built single-family home or the debut of a cutting-edge new style, Wheaton has it all within its borders. One thing is for sure—there are enough choices to appeal to those with many different ideas about what makes a home.
