Will County is also known for its highly reputable private schools, notably Joliet Catholic Academy and Providence Catholic High School. There are also several Montessori schools and learning academies serving those looking for an alternative pedagogical style.
Higher education is available at several nearby colleges and universities. Joliet Junior College (JJC) offers a wide variety of two-year programs. JJC was founded in 1901, making it America’s oldest public community college. The University of St. Francis in Joliet offers bachelor’s degrees in a variety of majors and graduate degrees in health services administration and long-term care administration.
Located just north of Joliet on Route 53 in Romeoville, Lewis University is a comprehensive, Catholic university with a richly diverse student body, including traditional-aged students as well as adults of all ages. The 12th largest among more than 80 private colleges and universities in Illinois, Lewis University offers approximately 65 undergraduate majors and programs of study. Many other colleges and universities surround the area. The University of Illinois, Illinois State, Bradley University, Northern Illinois University, North Central College and Benedictine University are all within a short drive.
