Theres always something fun to doindoors and outdoorsin the Village of Woodridge. Whether its exploring the woods, paddling a canoe, coasting down a bike path, skating on enclosed ice rinks, casting a fishing line, joining an aerobic class, or hitting the links for a round of golf, youll find more than a few activities suited to you and your familys interests. The award-winning Woodridge Park District maintains more than 480 acres of parklands that offer open space, playgrounds, tennis and basketball courts, soccer fields, and two lakesLake Harriet and Lake Carleton, which are stocked with fish annually. The District oversees 35 community and neighborhood parks, wetlands, bikeways, and open space and continues to develop new parklands, including Westminster Park, situated within the Farmingdale Unit #23 subdivision and Orchard Field Park, at the southeast corner of Janes Avenue and 83rd Street. The District also schedules and staffs more than 1,500 recreational programs and special events each year that are designed to appeal to people of all ages and abilities.
More than 34 miles of off-road, asphalt-paved bike paths offer Village residents safe and easily traversed roadways for pedaling. The paths link up with more than 100 miles of bikeways that run through surrounding communities and are used by recreational and commuting bicyclists. Both novice and diehard duffers find plenty of opportunities for teeing off in the Village of Woodridge. The Woodridge Park District operates the Village-owned Village Greens Golf Course, an 18-hole, par 72 award-winning course located at 1575 W. 75th Street. One of the best-groomed and affordable golfing facilities in Chicagos western suburbs, Village Greens received the 2001 Golf Course of the Year Award, presented by the Illinois Golf Course Owners Association, and the 2002 Business Achievement Award from The Business Ledger Newspaper. The course also has a pro shop and a practice range. The Village also owns the Seven Bridges Golf Course, a 135-acre, 18-hole championship course that is managed by a private company and is located at the intersection of Route 53 and One Mulligan Drive. Chicagoland Golf Magazine rates this course as one of the top five courses in the area and Golf Digest rated it as one of the top 20 courses in Illinois in 1993. Golfweek Magazine rated it one of Americas best courses in 1995. The club also offers fine dining, from lunch to banquets, and a golf shop. Eight forest preserves surround the Village and supply ample opportunities for hiking, picnicking, fishing, and, in some cases, canoeing and boating.
