Government

Serving the People

The Village of Woodridge operates under a Mayor/Trustee form of government. A mayor and six trustees, who are elected at-large for overlapping, four-year terms, make up the Village Board, the Village’s policy-making body who approves ordinances and adopts resolutions. The Village Clerk, elected for a four-year term, keeps all official records and maintains minutes of all Board meetings, which are held the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Werch Board Room, Village Hall, 5 Plaza Drive.

The Woodridge Police Department employs 52 sworn, full-time officers, including a K-9 patrol, a summertime bike patrol, and gang specialists, as well as 28 non-sworn employees. One of the first departments in Illinois to participate in the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program, the Department has won both state and national recognition for its documented reduction in youth substance abuse rates. The D.A.R.E. program is taught in nine of the local elementary and middle schools.

The Village has implemented "City Watch," a reverse 9-1-1 program. City Watch is a community notification system that utilizes existing published telephone listings in the Village of Woodridge. With this system, the Police Department is able to automatically alert all residents with a recorded message in the case of an emergency or to send community-related notifications.

Three fire districts provide fire and emergency services to Woodridge residents and businesses. The Darien-Woodridge Fire Protection District, based at 7550 Lyman in Darien, has 28 sworn employees and operates 10 emergency vehicles. The Lisle-Woodridge Fire Protection District, based at 1005 School Street in Lisle, employs 104 sworn employees and operates 13 emergency vehicles. The Lemont Fire Protection District, based at 15900 New Avenue in Lemont, has 41 sworn employees and operates nine emergency vehicles.

The Village works to help all Woodridge citizens enjoy the good life. Village staff assists community-minded residents who wish to volunteer by providing them with a list of volunteer opportunities, including those at the Woodridge Community Pantry. The Pantry, located at 6809 Hobson Valley Drive, Suite 118 and run and staffed entirely by volunteers, supplies food and personal care items for Woodridge residents who lack the resources to purchase them. The Pantry distributes holiday gift baskets and sponsors a variety of activities aimed at feeding the hungry.
