No matter the season, opportunities for exercise, fun and competition abound in and around Woodstock.

The city offers a full range of recreational sports leagues for kids and adults. Organized baseball, softball, soccer, tennis and hockey are available to play at city facilities, while Woodstock’s parks are popular sites for pickup games or for walking and jogging.

Many city activities take place through the 130-acre Emricson Park. The city’s municipal pool, baseball and softball diamonds, soccer fields, ice and roller hockey rinks, tennis courts, and fishing ponds are all open to the public. When the temperature dips in the winter, a whole new series of activities becomes available. The ponds are open to skaters while tobogganing is a timeless winter pastime.

Woodstock is also a heaven for golfers. The nine-hole public Craig Woods Golf Course serves golfers of all skill levels. The semi-private Crystal Woods Golf Club and the private Bull Valley Golf Club and Woodstock Country Club offer challenging play and exclusive competition.

Anyone looking for a quiet place to walk or jog would do well to visit Ryder’s Park, one of the few natural reserves in Illinois. Teeming with plant and animal life, the park is one of Illinois’ natural wonders and remains a popular place for a quiet afternoon.
