graphicIn Zion, history buffs will enjoy Shiloh House, an elegant 25-room mansion built by the city's founder, the Rev. John Alexander Dowie, who headed the Christian Catholic Church. Other interesting area sites are the Mother Rudd Home in Gurnee, the grade school from 1892 in Antioch, and the Haines Farmhouse in Waukegan.

Illinois Beach State Park is a major recreation spot along Lake Michigan. Visitors can head for Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, the premier theme park in the Midwest, featuring more than 100 rides and other attractions. Or bargain hunters can stop by Gurnee Mills, the world's largest outlet shopping mall. Not far away is the Cuneo Museum and Gardens, in Vernon Hills.
