History

ZION'S HISTORIC PAST started in July 1900 when a Scottish minister, Dr. John Alexander Dowie, had a dream to build a community based on church principles. The community thrived by creating several industries; Zion Lace Factory, candy and cookie factories, printing, and banking. Those who wished to come to Zion worked in the industries, paid a tenth of their income into the church, and in return at the end of each year the profits were divided among them.

ZION'S DYNAMIC FUTURE
has evolved into the home of Midwestern Regional Medical Center at Cancer Treatment Centers of America, a premiere center for treating cancer. Midwestern is the flagship of the corporation and employs over 3,000 employees. Patients travel to the center from all over the country. A friendly partnership among the hospital, business owners, and city government has formed to make sure that the patients feel at home in Zion while they are in treatment. Cancer Treatment Centers of America continues to grow not only here in our town but across the country.
