Avon’s close proximity to Indianapolis makes it the perfect place to stay while visiting the vibrant city.
The tourism draws are varied: The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis provides an international drawing card with it hands-on galleries of fun, ranging from an old-fashioned carousel ride to an archeological dig to theatre performances that allow visitors to star in the show.
History lovers take in President Benjamin Harrison’s restored Italianate-style home, the Morris-Butler House’s Victorian flavor and the James Whitcomb Riley Museum Home. Crown Hill Cemetery offers these celebrities’ final resting places, alongside Colonel Eli Lilly of pharmaceutical fame and bank robber John Dillinger.
Even if visitors do not arrive in the months of May (Indianapolis 500), June (United States Grand Prix) or August (Brickyard 400) to join the throngs cheering on their favorite drivers, they can still capture the spirit of racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum. The museum also hosts tours of the 2 1/2-mile oval track, a highlight many residents stop by to experience as well.
In fact, sports represent the area’s forte, with residents enthusiastically supporting the 2007 Super Bowl XLI Champion Indianapolis Colts (NFL), Indiana Pacers (NBA) and Indianapolis Indians (minor league baseball). Arena football, hockey and soccer also hold professional seasons.
Golf enthusiasts enjoy spending an afternoon on the links at one of the six 18-hole golf courses, most of which are open to the public. Quail Creek Golf Community, located northwest of Avon, off I-74, offers an enjoyable and affordable place to play golf and experience maintenance-free living.
A challenging and fun par 72, public golf course with four sets of tees. The tree-lined, fully-irrigated fairways and greens of various sizes and slopes, stretch out over 6,400 yards.
Our QC Club Room is also available for parties, wedding receptions and special events for up to 150 people.
For those who prefer an afternoon enjoying nature with a twist, nearby Plainfield has two wineries, Sugar Grove Winery and Vineyard and the Chateau Thomas Winery, both offering tours and tastings.
