Chesterton and the Duneland community are prime locations for retail and corporate development. The population is growing not only in numbers but affluence as well. Along with residential growth and increasing prosperity in the community, the demand for retail and service businesses has increased. The area has grown at the rate of 18 percent since the 2000 census. Business growth is supported by the Chamber of Commerce and the Northwest Indiana Forum. Ribbon cutting ceremonies are held to give new businesses more exposure and publicity and to show they are a welcome part of the community.
