There is a little bit of something for everyone when it comes to the housing market in Clinton County. These turn-of-the century homes feature many unique architectural elements, and many have been beautifully refurbished. Conveniently located near Frankfort, many of the countys newer subdivisions offer amenities such as lakes for boating and fishing, golf course access, swimming pools, and tennis courts. Those in search of true country living can choose from older farm homesteads and single-family homes with acreage that dot the countys rural landscape. This winning combination of rural charm and suburban conveniences attracts many residents to Clinton County.
Clinton Countys senior residents can choose from several assisted living options. Wesley Manor is a continuing care facility offering individual cottages and apartments on its 53 acres. Residents over 60 can reside here and take advantage of amenities including an indoor pool, bowling alley, woodcraft and ceramics room, greenhouse, chapel, and comprehensive health care facility. Affiliated with the United Methodist Church, Wesley Manor is a non-profit retirement community committed to offering retirees a full and active lifestyle. Other facilities include Friendship Village - a 32-unit senior citizen complex designed to enhance independent living conditions for the elderly on fixed incomes. Here, residents contribute no more than 25% of their monthly income to rent. Operating in conjunction with the Frankfort Community Housing and the Farmers Home Administration, Friendship Village is governed by a board of local residents. The Mulberry Lutheran Home is another retirement community for senior residents, and nursing homes include Clinton House Convalescent Center, Frankfort Nursing Home, Houston Health Care, and Milner Community Health Care.
Clinton County residents have access to numerous dining options at the areas cafes, fast food establishments, and family restaurants. Area clubs and lodges also offer dining facilities. With larger urban centers nearby, residents can access a vast pool of ethnic cuisine, fine dining establishments, and family favorite restaurant chains. Lodging options in Clinton County range from economical motels to larger, more sophisticated hotel chains. Camp Cullom, north of Frankfort, offers camping facilities on its 90-acre site. Along with campgrounds, Camp Cullom is used for fishing, picnicking, sledding, hiking, and nature study. Founded more than 50 years ago, this facility also serves as a spot for nature study, with a natural habitat that is home to a wide variety of wildlife and vegetation. The Big FishN Campground also offers residents and Clinton County visitors a large camping area. Surrounded by stocked ponds, horseshoes, hiking trails, and play areas, this popular camping facility offers a relaxing getaway as well as affordable lodging. The Painted Lady House and Museum is open year-round. The past comes alive in this renovated Victorian home filled with period furnishings, vintage clothing and accessories, and antique dolls. The Goodwin Museum in Frankfort is home to J. William Goodwins unique collection of letters and rare mementos from United States presidents, including Abraham Lincoln. This museum also displays numerous classic automobiles, including a 1904 Dusenberg, a 1948 Tucker, Jack Bennys Maxwell, two Indy-500 race winners, and horse-drawn hearses. The motorized wheelchair used by Franklin D. Roosevelt is also on display. And the Clinton County Historical Museum is located in three rooms of the Old Frankfort Stone High School, known to residents as Old Stoney. Built in 1892 as a school, it was destroyed by fire in 1902 and restored in 1926.
