Montgomery
County is replete with many rewarding sites and tourist stops. Visitors
can choose from four historic museums: Lane Place Antebellum Mansion,
Ben-Hur Museum, Old Jail Museum and the Linden Depot Museum. Hikers can
explore Shades State Park or Pine Hills Nature Preserve or walk the self-guided
tour at the Elston Grove Historic District. The
Sugar Creek Canoe Race is held in April and draws noted Olympic racers
and has heats for local and novice competitors. Crawfordsville’s Strawberry
Festival held the second weekend in June on the landscaped grounds of
the Historic Lane Place and throughout the downtown area draws 35,000
people annually, more than double the town’s entire population.
