Location and Transportation
Daviess County is ideally located for business and recreation alike. The county will benefit greatly from the completed construction of I-69 through the region, with the new interstate linking the county with NAFTA trade points in Canada and areas south of the United States.
County officials ensured that the rapidly growing WestGate @ Crane Technology Park was located near the critical interchange of I-69, which is expected to transform the northeast region of the county. In addition to access improvements expected from I-69, the county can easily be reached by crisscrossing U.S. and state highways, including U.S. 50/150, U.S. 231, State Road 57 and State Road 358.
The Washington-Daviess County Airport regularly serves corporate jets and commercial aircraft with a principal paved and lighted runway nearly 5,000 feet (1,535 meters) in length. A comfortable passenger terminal and a repair/refueling facility with modern hangers provides needed services for incoming and outbound traffic from all continental points.
Three major railroad operations—CSX, Indiana Southern and the Soo Line—serve rail needs for the county. Formerly the home of a billion-dollar repair and rail restoration facility, the county seat of Washington is no stranger to commercial shipping. With the construction of I-69 and the connection to established Indiana ports, county officials are planning the possible development of a major intermodal facility to accommodate robotic inventory, bulk breakdown and modern warehousing.
Daviess County lies 260 miles southeast of Chicago, 93 miles southwest of Indianapolis, 200 miles north of Nashville and 100 miles from Cincinnati.
