With agritourism growing in popularity and an established authentic Amish presence, Daviess County offers a refreshing and delightful change of pace for families and visitors. Easily within the range of a tank of gas from major urban areas like Cincinnati, Nashville, Indianapolis and Chicago, the county serves up a full spectrum of entertaining recreational opportunities.

Home to several regional and national bass competitions, the Glendale Fish and Wildlife Area is second to none for great outdoor activities including mushroom hunting and wild turkey shoots. Interesting formations left by melting ancient glaciers make for noteworthy hikes, particularly in the fall when the region is ablaze with its legendary color.

Thousands travel to Daviess County annually for a personal and unforgettable tour through the authentic Amish region. Skilled Amish craftsman and quality quilt masters offer up their wares in quaint shops around the county, and tours of working Amish farms and homes are available. The superb quality of Amish-cooked meals can be sampled at a number of Amish-style restaurants in the county.

Classic cars restored to mint quality and antique working farm equipment attract many visitors in the fall, and thousands more attend the regional quilt and craft auctions that take place in the summer and fall. East Side Park in Washington is home to a spectacular array of holiday lights and exhibits during the winter holiday season.

Golf and tennis abound in the region, and Daviess County is home to the 18-hole Country Oaks Golf Club and the Washington Country Club, which are both great for a relaxing round.

Amish-style cheese and crafts shops, including the renowned Graham Farms Cheese Corporation shop in Elnora, serve up delightful treats that can be shipped across the country.

Located near the provisional capital of the Indiana territory, Daviess County figures prominently in American history. The Daviess County Historical Museum on Main Street in Washington is a “must see” stop for a glimpse of real U.S. history. Many 18th- and 19th-century Catholic and Protestant churches in Daviess County offer a look into how worship and faith shaped the American Midwest, and are open to the public.
