No region can advance without a solid educational system, and Daviess County is home to some of the top schools and educational opportunities in the state. Barr-Reeve High School in eastern Daviess County has regularly been named as one of the state’s top five most-efficient schools by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. In addition to a strong public school system, the county seat is home to one of the largest and oldest private K-12 Catholic programs.

Vincennes University maintains a strong presence in Daviess County, offering a wide variety of coursework leading both to undergraduate degrees and professional certification. The county lies within an hour’s drive of the main campus of Indiana University in Bloomington (with its nationally ranked Kelley School of Business) and Indiana State University in Terre Haute. The nation’s No. 1 private engineering college, the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, is also a short drive away. Purdue University maintains a distance learning program through its Extension Program in Daviess County, and the campuses of the University of Southern Indiana and the University of Evansville are within commuting distance.

Major Hoosier research universities are expected to expand their presence within the WestGate tech park, which will further higher educational and technology transfer opportunities for Daviess County residents.

County officials strongly support life-long learning and retraining and as a result, a number of formal programs and training centers maintain a robust presence. This includes direct involvement from Indiana’s SBDC (Small Business Development Centers) program. The county and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) also directly support a wide variety of programs for entrepreneurs in the region.
