Whether seeking food, lodging or attractions, DeKalb County has it all. Dining options cater to a variety of tastes; DeKalb-area establishments offer everything from fast food to fine dining, with something sure to please every palate.

Each community has unique dining. Convention and banquet facilities are available at Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum, WWII Victory Museum & Kruse Automotive & Carriage Museum, Hoosier Air Museum, Kruse Auction Park, Bridgewater Golf Club and LaQuinta Inn.

There are a variety of lodging accommodations in Auburn offering excellent service, plenty of amenities and prices for any budget.

When it comes to bed & breakfasts, Whispering Pines Lodge provides a charming and serene place to relax, offering rooms that open up to a private wildlife pond. The Maple Leaf Inn, an 1819 Gothic Revival house, presents four guest rooms, each with a distinct theme. Other accommodations include Auburn Inn, Best Western, Comfort Suites, Country Hearth Inn, Days Inn, Holiday Inn Express, La Quinta Inn and Super 8 Motel. Options are available for campers, too. The Auburn KOA Campground features heated and air-conditioned Kamping Kabins, a heated pool and a playground. Indian Springs Campground is located in natural wooded and prairie settings with fishing lakes and ponds, beaches and a host of available activities.

DeKalb County also has a wide assortment of attractions sure to please a range of interests. For education, fun and a look into the past, several museums are located right in town. The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum houses classic automobiles from the early 1900s up to World War II-era vehicles, while the National Automotive and Truck Museum of the United States (NATMUS) presents vehicles from the post-war years as well as a model car/truck and toy museum. Both museums are located in original factory buildings where Auburn and Cord automobiles were manufactured. The Hoosier Air Museum is located at the DeKalb County Airport and showcases aircraft from throughout the history of aviation. The WWII Victory Museum has an impressive collection of approximately 150 vehicles and hundreds of uniforms, weapons and smaller artifacts.

The Kruse Automotive and Carriage Museum displays classic cars, racecars and carriages. The Garrett Historical Railroad Museum, located in the former Baltimore and Ohio Railroad freight station, has been restored to depict a typical rural railroad station of the 1900s. Visitors can stop by the DeKalb County Historical Museum to see displays and presentations about the county’s rich history.

Another sight to see is the Spencerville Covered Bridge, which was built in 1873 and is the only remaining covered bridge in DeKalb County. In 1981 it was placed on the National Historical Registry. A yearly festival is held at the bridge featuring “Supper on the Bridge,” a historical re-creation and much more. Also popular is Sechler’s pickle factory and showroom, offering guided tours and a unique gift shop.

Several other festivals and events also take place in Auburn and surrounding communities. The DeKalb County Free Fall Fair occurs for a week every September. It is a traditional county fair with 4-H contests, rides, food and more. On Labor Day weekend, the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival features a classic car parade, antiques, arts and crafts and downtown entertainment. Kruse International Auction Park is home to the World’s Largest Collector Car Auction with over 5,000 cars for sale.

The St. Joe Pickle Festival, Ashley-Hudson Days, Waterloo Crossroads Car & Truck Show, Spencerville Covered Bridge Festival, Garrett Heritage Fest and Cycle Fest are among several other events occurring throughout the year.
