graphicDecatur County residents don’t need to schedule trips to Indianapolis or Cincinnati to complete any part of their lifestyles. We’re the hub of southeast Indiana for department and discount store necessities. Name it and you’ll find it conveniently situated near I-74 or State Road 3 at the Wal-Mart Supercenter, Greensburg Crossing, Northside Plaza, Big Kmart Plaza or Michigan Crossing. Automobiles, specialty clothing, jewelry, groceries, bridal accessories, furniture, office supplies, toys and necessities are readily available. City officials are in talks to add still more retailers for the county’s convenience.

Downtown’s Tower Tree Square caters to a more whimsical niche, where private merchants offer costumes, crafts, music, Vera Bradley and other collectibles, dolls, hardware oddities, home décor touches, fabrics and specialty gifts. There’s even an old-fashioned department store. Antiquing is almost a sport in Decatur County, as various shops and flea markets line the main streets of Greensburg, Millhousen and Westport. In all likelihood, you’ll find the perfect item in your travels without even realizing there was a town on that spot of the map. graphic

The Northside Merchant Association, Independent Westport Area Business Association and St. Paul Merchants organizations ensure retailers live up to customers’ high standards.

Dining options include nearly everything from fast-food chains to steakhouses, ice cream parlors, diners, coffeehouses (espressos and cappuccino are in high demand here), and delis. A majority are family-owned and operated; one historic location serves meals by appointment only – and diners are never disappointed by the tales and red carpet treatment that accompanies their reservations.

County restaurants earned their reputations for mouth-watering fried chicken, tenderloins and fresh baked pies – as American an offering as Sunday lunch at Grandma’s!
