The Kendallville Police Department is comprised of 18 full-time officers, one detective, and three shift supervisors, all under the direction of the Chief of Police. Twenty reserve officers are authorized, with approximately 10 being utilized as of this writing. The Police Department is an active participant within the community and offers many programs of interest to our citizens. Included among them are drug awareness seminars, personal safety classes for women, robbery prevention techniques for businesses and most recently, dealing with bio-hazardous issues. Our Police Department welcomes the opportunity to speak to any group at any time, and are a vital part of the health of our community. A dedicated team of 12 full-time and numerous reserve and volunteer firefighters operating from two stations protect citizens and businesses of Kendallville. Two deputy fire chiefs operate under the direction of the Fire Chief. The Department is equipped with five pumper trucks, a rescue unit, grass truck, 4,500 gallon tanker, and a mobile incident command center. The city has a fire insurance rating of 5. Emergency medical services are provided by highly trained and dedicated paramedics and emergency medical technicians. Kendallville Publishing Company has been publishing the news of our city since 1863. Still a family-owned business on Main Street in downtown, KPC publishes The News Sun seven days a week and maintains a website at kpcnews.net, which features an on-line edition of the daily news. Kendallville's own radio station, WAWK, broadcasts from a 250-watt transmitter and can be found at 1140-AM. Dating back to 1953, WAWK keeps our citizens informed and entertained.
