Theres
always something happening in LaGrange County. Festivals and special events
entertain residents and visitors throughout the year. In the spring, theres
a Maple Syrup Festival at Maple Wood Nature Center, and Shipshewana sponsors
Mayfest, a family celebration with food, parades, and music. During the
summer months, theres free concerts and theater in Topekas
parks and 4th of July festivals in Topeka, LaGrange, and Wolcottville.
The LaGrange County 4-H Fairgrounds, located in LaGrange, packs them in
for the annual 4-H Fair, held in July, and the Gas and Steam Engine Show,
held in August. In September, Howe celebrates its annual festival, Indian
Summer Days, with a bike tour, parade, and activities. A month later,
LaGrange sponsors Corn School, featuring a street fair, a parade and family
fun. Come November and December towns welcome the holidays with a variety
of open houses, Santas-coming ceremonies, and live Nativities. Quilt
shows, craft fairs, church suppers, pancake breakfasts, and other events
sponsored by local church groups and civic organizations round out the
year.
