The greater LaPorte area is served by four railroads: Class One lines, Norfolk & Southern, CSX and the Grand Trunk Western.
Five airlines regularly serve Michiana Regional Airport at South Bend, 25 miles to the east of LaPorte. Local private and corporate aircraft are based at LaPorte Municipal Airport, which has two paved runways (5000-foot and 2,800-foot). The airport offers jet and high-octane fuels, airframe/ engine maintenance and repair, and flight instruction. There are no landing fees or airport parking fees.
Burns International Harbor is only 25 miles west of LaPorte. The harbor on Lake Michigan opens all the world's markets to LaPorte manufacturers.
Local transportation for seniors and handicapped residents is provided by Transporte, a taxi service operated by the city.
