Cluster of Commerce

LaPorte’s downtown continues to be a shopping focal point with stores that carry a variety of goods and necessities. Downtown is also the governmental center of the community with local, county, state and federal offices at its heart. Several financial and investment services are also situated downtown.

Lincolnway, which passes through the downtown, is the city’s primary commercial artery. Stores, shops and services line much of it to the northeast and southwest. On the far southwest side, another commercial cluster is focused around the Maple Lane Mall – a small enclosed shopping center with a large food store, a major discount department store and many other shops.

A shopping plaza north of downtown has another large food store and a farm-oriented department store, and it anchors about a dozen other shops. Commerce continues north on Pine Lake Avenue, with real estate offices, auto dealers, motels, restaurants and others lining each side.
