Monticello is a vibrant community offering all who come here the perfect opportunity to get away from it all and get it all. The City of Monticello annually shares its amenities and heritage with over one million visitors.

Because of the lakes, Monticello has dual identities, both peaceful and fun. As the sun rises with a day full of promises, Monticello shows the serene and peaceful side of the lakes. The city is also friendly, energetic, bright, busy, crowded and fun.

Surrounding Lake Shafer and Lake Freeman are a grand array of businesses: bed and breakfasts, resorts, motels, hotels, campgrounds, rental cottages, bait shops, boat rentals, marinas and restaurants. Because Monticello is a tourism community, we have opportunities not commonly found in communities our size.

While summer is our peak tourism season, the lakes offer year-round excitement. Watching the seasons change on the lakes is a transition not to be missed.

One of Indiana’s largest tourism attractions, Indiana Beach, an amusement park, is located on Lake Shafer. NASCAR RV Resorts at Indiana Beach (Indiana Beach Campground) and Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Campground are located near the amusement park.

In addition to thrilling rides, Indiana Beach offers unique shops, great eateries and water sports. A ride on the Shafer Queen gives a view of lakeside living.

For sightseeing on Lake Freeman, visitors enjoy the Madam Carroll, the largest licensed Coast Guard approved inland water craft in the State of Indiana. Each July, the Madam Carroll leads a Patriotic Boat Parade honoring America’s military personnel.

golf course

Premier golf courses are part of Monticello’s appeal to both residents and visitors. Bordered by Lake Shafer, Tippecanoe Country Club (TCC) has served as one of White County’s oldest and most treasured attractions. Formed in 1920, it preceded the development of both lakes and the dams.

In 1961, the most important change to the golf course was made when famed Indianapolis architect Pete Dye helped install greens and tees to expand the course to 18 holes. TCC is meticulously groomed and considered one of the finest courses in Indiana. The course hosts a Pro Shop, restaurant and is open to the pubic.

Founded in 1985, Pine View Golf Course has an 18-hole course, driving range, two putting greens and a Pro Shop. Pine View Resort has a 9-hole course and is home to Indiana Golf Academy, which provides comprehensive instruction and access to several area golf courses.

Hollow Acres Golf Center is located south of Monticello. It features a 9-hole course, driving range and miniature golf for family fun. In 2010, this great business celebrated its Golden Anniversary.

Part of Indiana’s growing agri-tourism industry, Whyte Horse Winery, located south of Monticello, hosts special events in addition to offer superb tasting experiences with their award-winning wines.

Greater Monticello boasts a variety of great dining and shopping options. Visitors find relaxation and endless activities year-round in this vibrant community. Monticello…life with a splash! i
