Recreation
Activities abound through every season in Munster. The Parks and Recreation Department plans comprehensive programs and classes for all ages – including computer classes, dance instruction and special trips. Munster’s park system spans more than 200 acres, with parks that feature soccer fields, baseball and softball diamonds, playgrounds, picnic areas with shelters, winding foot trails, sledding, shuffleboards, basketball courts and nature areas for passive recreational enjoyment.
Nearby, the Indiana Dunes State Park offers nearly 1,200 acres along the Lake Michigan shoreline and another 1,800 wooded acres for exploration, hiking and camping. A variety of educational and entertaining programs are offered at the park during the summer months. Trails lead through the park and into the adjacent Dunes National Lakeshore, which has boat ramps and paths for horseback riding.
