Education

For three consecutive years, the State of Indiana has named Munster High School a four-star school, which places it among the top 25 percent in Indiana. This enviable position equates to students reaping the benefits of an exemplary education at the high school level, where more than 130 courses are offered – including advanced placement courses that allow students an opportunity to earn college credit. Students continue to score well above the state and national averages in standardized testing, and continue to score high on the SAT and ACT college entrance exams. More than 92 percent of the students continue on to college upon graduation. Total enrollment in the Munster Town Schools has topped 3,800 students at its high school, middle school (grades six through eight), and three elementary schools (kindergarten through fifth grade).

The addition of two new state-of-the-art public grade schools and remodeling of others has placed Munster in a most desirable position for families with young children. The district elementary schools, which offer a gifted and talented program to eligible students, have also received state accolades for meeting the highest standards for attendance, student performance, faculty initiative and parent participation. Children in Munster also have access to excellent parochial and private schools at the elementary and high school levels. Two- and four-year colleges and technical and vocational schools are located nearby – these schools include Purdue University Calumet, Calumet College of St. Joseph in Hammond, Indiana University, Valparaiso University and the University of Notre Dame.
