The City of Portage has a small town atmosphere but offers the opportunities of a large city. Our rapid growth is displayed in the dozens of new residential areas, the influx of many restaurants and retail stores especially along the Hwy. 6 corridor, and the redevelopment of our downtown.

Portage is proud to have one of the best school systems in the state of Indiana. We also boast of new healthcare facilities, convenient shopping and many dining opportunities.

Recreational opportunities abound for the citizens of Portage. Lake Michigan and the beaches offer family fun for boaters,fisherman and all sun lovers! Our Duneland Trail has miles of scenic paths for walking, biking or roller blading. Chicago is only an hour away and for commuters, the South Shore Train offers frequent daily runs.

Many industries are attracted to Portage because of our location. The International Port of Indiana is at our doorstep. The steel industry continues to be the heart of our community.
