Johannes, President, Santa Claus area Chamber of Commerce Spencer County Regional Chamber of Commerce Welcome to a snapshot of Spencer County, Indiana. This is a snapshot of a community that is on the verge of major changes at the turn of a century and at the change of a millennium. Fundamental and lasting change is irreversibly and irrevocably taking place, and its about to accelerate. Spencer County is an exciting place to live and do business. One of the missions of the Spencer County Regional Chamber of Commerce is to help prepare our members and the community for these changes. Wherever possible the Chamber wants to be part of the process of change so that it can be directed, channeled and controlled in order to maximize the benefits to businesses and the community. Our goal is to accomplish the changes while still maintaining the warmth and intimacy of a rural Hoosier county and its quality of life. Change is being driven by a new 4-lane bridge across the Ohio River connecting and linking Western Kentucky and points north and south with a new highway system coming to Spencer County. The new highway system includes a new 4-lane Hwy. 231 connecting the new bridge to I-64 and possibly to the proposed I-69 trade route. Plans are in development for connecting the new Hwy. 231 at Rockport to Evansville via a 4-lane Hwy. 66. And the possibility of a River Port at the base of the new bridge in Rockport is being actively pursued. This explosion of transportation infrastructure is going to drastically enhance the attractiveness of Spencer County to new businesses of all sorts and improve business portential of exising businesses, the likes of which we won't even be able to imagine. One of the beneficial results of the new traffic pattern associated with the new bridge is the imroved relations with our surrounding neighbors. Already we are witnessing new opportunities to partner and do business with associates in the region and it has only just begun. Welcome to Spencer County, Land of Lincoln and Opportunity. Come on in, take a seat and enjoy the ride. Gene Steinkamp, 1999 Chairman of the Board
