From Fine Dining to Burgers
From barbecue to burgers, steaks to shakes, St. John and its surrounding communities offer all the sophistication of metropolitan dining with small-town warmth and convenience. We offer a diverse assortment of dining options from fast food to fine cuisine, whatever the craving!
Nationally franchised restaurants such as Subway, Pizza Hut and Dairy Queen, are a welcomed source of dining for families on the go. The community also patronizes its local family owned eateries such as Livio’s, known for its Italian-American cuisine, Pascale’s Pizza & Pasta, The Aspen Café where breakfast is served all day, Mama D’s Pizza and a local favorite hamburger emporium — Schoops! The community has recently welcomed two new restaurants: La Quesadilla Mexican Grill; and Northwoods Hearty Home Cookin’ & Saloon, fashioned in the style of a rustic cabin in the woods, offering outdoor dining overlooking a pond and waterfall. St. John and its neighboring communities are represented by a wide range of ethnicities with an appealing mix of specialty cafes and tea rooms.
A tradition of bringing fine dining to its patrons for over 75 years has been the passion of the Teibel family. Located at the intersection of Rt. 41 and U.S. 30, only minutes from St. John, Teibel’s Family Restaurant is widely known for its seafood. And another long-time family business located at Rt. 41 and Rt. 231 in St. John, Dick’s Restaurant continues to bring fine dining to the community as they have for the past 38 years.
Shopping
Most shopping in St. John is along Wicker Avenue (Rt.41), and as the area grows, so does the opportunity to shop close to home. Whether you wish to enjoy an afternoon of browsing and shopping in local specialty shops for antiques, florals or collectibles found in our own St. John Mall, or get a head start on school supplies for the family at Target or Kmart, parking is ample and the trip is short. Surrounding communities offer Crossroads Shopping Center in Schererville, Highland Crossing Shopping Center in Highland, and Westfield Mall in Hobart. The Lighthouse Outlet Mall in Michigan City makes for a lovely day trip, and a 45-minute South Shore train ride transports you to the Chicago shopping experience.
