With pride in continued growth, St. John maintains over 20 parks for local recreational activities throughout the community, ranging from all-athletic complex parks to nature walk, bicycle and pedestrian areas. We invite you to discover all our beautiful parks and their amenities. Our larger parks offer groomed baseball, soccer and softball fields with bleachers and concessions, or are designed for family activities with pavilions, picnic tables, barbecue grills, horseshoe pits, swings, merry-go-round and monkey bars. Prairie West Park offers a heated pavilion on a 2.5-acre area dappled with blue spruce and pine trees and invites the community to Movie in the Park nights, seasonal festivities and a visit with Santa. Development continues on completion of a town-wide bike path, which will utilize some of the town’s existing parks, offering a gazebo and drinking fountains along the way.

The Parks and Recreation Department prints and distributes a seasonal “Fun Guide,” offering activities for all ages, with excellent facilities, convenient schedules to accommodate your limited leisure time, diverse and plentiful recreational opportunities with skillful instructors. And in conjunction with surrounding towns and local sponsors, the adults and young at heart have an opportunity to join “The Adventurer’s Club.” Through participation, a member can enjoy day trips, nature walks, seasonal outings and monthly meetings with guest speakers.

And in an effort to guarantee recreational opportunities to all in our community, the St. John Parks and Recreation Department is a proud partner in the “Cooperative Special Recreation Initiative.” C.S.R.I. is a cooperative venture created to increase recreational opportunities for all age groups who have varying degrees of physical, mental and learning disabilities.

In St. John and neighboring communities, a selection of beautifully landscaped golf courses invites golfers of all ages and abilities to enjoy tournament, league and individual play.
